Fresh Cranberry Sauce

IMG_4961.jpeg

I’ve always thought that homemade versions of classic recipes taste much better than store-bought versions, and cranberry sauce is a perfect example of this.  don’t know about you but I think cranberry sauce is one of the best Thanksgiving side dishes. The flavor combination of the fresh cranberries, orange juice, raw honey and bursts of freshly grated orange zest make this cranberry sauce to. die. for.

Most homemade cranberry sauce recipes call for a lot of sugar. For those who haven’t tried them, plain cranberries are very tart, so I wasn’t sure how much it would be possible to reduce the sugar and still have an enjoyable sauce, but unrefined natural sweeteners (honey) and delicious fruits filled in the gaps.

What we eat daily has a big impact in our physical and mental health. And out of all uncontrollable things surrounding us, what we feed our bodies is in fact under our control. Over the course of time I have developed simples ways and recipes to lead a sustainable healthy lifestyle and a deepest desire to share with you all !

This recipe still has more natural sugars than we normally eat, but is a much healthier option than the ones that actually contain refined sugar and is a delicious treat for Thanksgiving dinner.

If you’re looking to make homemade cranberry sauce without refined sugar, the good news is that it’s super easy. There is no reason to add a bunch of white granulated, highly processed sugar to the cranberries.  Instead, try using some healthier, less refined, and still yummy options to sweeten up your homemade cranberry sauce. I am choosing honey in this case.

INGREDIENTS:
* 32 oz fresh cranberries
* 1/3 honey  + more if needed
* 1 large orange zest (preferably organic)
* 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
* 1 cup water
* 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
.
.

DIRECTIONS:
* Rinse the cranberries.
* Place a saucepan over medium heat and add the cranberries, honey, orange zest, orange juice, water, and cinnamon.
* Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a boil. Continue boiling over medium heat until the berries burst and break down, forming a sauce, 12-15
* Taste for sweetness. If it’s too tart, add more honey – a tablespoon at a time – until the sauce tastes sweet enough for you.

* Remove from the heat and let cool. Spoon into your serving container to serve or store in a cute mason jar and bring it to dinner tonight.
This recipe is truly simple, and it will make a difference. There is nothing more meaningful than sharing our food with the ones we love the most.
